This is the weirdest "staple" we have in my house. My youngest son loves it so much we make it at least once a month. In fact, it is so easy, he sometimes makes it pretty much on his own. However, he was telling his cousin about how he made it once and he called it "crotch pot" buffalo chicken. Not sure she wanted any! lol
But it is easy, tasty, and requires few ingredients:
3 lb. bag of frozen chicken, Frank's Red Hot Wing's Buffalo Sauce, & a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch Dip Mix.
We put all the ingredients into the CROCK pot:
One of the reasons I love this recipe is the chicken goes in completely FROZEN. Many times, I lack the organizational skills to thaw things out ahead of time. But with this recipe, it doesn't matter in the slightest!
I pour the entire bottle of Frank's Buffalo sauce right on top of the chicken. The original recipe calls for 3/4ths of the bottle, but the first time I made it, we found it too dry. Now I add the entire bottle and it is wonderfully juicy. At my son's request, I tried the Frank's Hot Buffalo sauce once. He liked it but it was too hot for me. Now we make it this way and if he wants more heat, we add it to his individual portion.
I add nearly all of the Ranch Dip mix right on top of the chicken, put the cover on the crock pot, and cook it on low for at least six or seven hours.
At that point, I pull the chicken breasts out of the crock pot and pull them apart with two forks. If it is difficult, I know they are not ready. But usually, after about six hours, they just fall apart.
After all the chicken is shredded, I put it all back into the slow cooker, add a couple tablespoons of butter, and let it cook for another hour so the shredded chicken can soak up all that yummy sauce.
After an hour, all the sauce is soaked up and the chicken is nice and juicy.
Now it is time to eat! My favorite way to have this is as a sandwich on a toasted deli roll with some melted pepper jack cheese. But we also use it in scrambled eggs, macaroni & cheese, nachos, on crackers, egg rolls, quesadillas, melt with some Velveeta instead of Rotel to make a dip....
Slow Cooker Buffalo Chicken
- 3 lb. bag of frozen chicken breasts
- 1 bottle Frank's Wings Buffalo Sauce
- 1 packet Ranch Dip Mix
- 2 TBSP butter
- Put frozen chicken, wing sauce, and ranch dip mix into crock pot.
- Cook on low at least 6 to 7 hours
- Using two forks, shred chicken & return to crock pot.
- Add butter.
- Cook on low for an additional hour.
- Enjoy!

Okay, THIS sounds to die for!!! Definitely going to try it!
ReplyDeleteDeb ~ would love to hear how it works out for you!
ReplyDeleteCan you use any kind of buffalo sauce?
DeleteYummy! I love anything with buffalo wing sauce! This sounds great...I can't wait to try it! Found it on Pinterest!
ReplyDeleteHello! I found this recipe on Pinterest and tried it this weekend. Delicious and SO simple! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove it! Def going to have to give it a try! "Crotch Pot Chicken", hysterical!
ReplyDeleteMaking this tomorrow! Ill be sure to letcha kno how everyone likes it! (Im sure you can go wrong with this combo tho!) -Tiffany
ReplyDeleteI made these for dinner last night, and we were not disappointed. I didn't have 3 lbs of chicken (more like 1+)which worked out great because I didn't have a full bottle of Frank's. When I assembling our sandwiches I used ranch dressing to spread on my dinner rolls, and my husband topped his off with some (rather stinky) blue cheese. Both were delicious! I think next time (because there will be a next time) I might add a slice of cheddar to round it all out. I'm not a huge fan of blue, but I think some sharp cheddar would make it fantastic!
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing and easy! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing!! As I was pouring my BBQ sauce over the chicken in my crockpot a little while ago, a thought came to mind "What if this was Buffalo Sauce?" So I did a search on Pinterest for "Crockpot Buffalo Chicken" and immediately started drooling as soon as I saw your pic!!
ReplyDeleteI'm totally making this the next time we have chicken! I am in love with Buffalo Chicken, and also with my Crockpot!
I will probably post about it on my blog, and I'll be sure to link back to your post.
Thanks again for sharing! I can't wait to try it! :)
I've got this in the pot now. Cannot wait. I also came across a pin on Pinterest that tells you an easy way to shred the chicken. Just put it in the bowl and use the cookie blender handle. Put warm/cooked chicken in and mix for 20 seconds.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this.
For those of you who have tried this...is it spicy?
ReplyDeleteI would say its a bid spicier than your average medium. I was a little surprised by how spicy it was because I was expecting it to be very mild.
DeleteIt is so spicy!!! too hot for me and the kids, but it was good.
DeleteVery spicy, but in a good way. Zippy.
DeleteWe used regular BBQ and it was yummy!
DeleteGreat idea to shred the chicken with the cookie blender handle. I might have to try that. I don't use the "hot" wing sauce from Frank's, just regular wing sauce and it is not too spicy for me. My son likes it more spicy and so we add some El Diablo sauce to his sandwiches and nachos when we make it. I like the super spicy but super spicy does NOT like me! lol
ReplyDeleteIs it too spicy for a 5- and 8- year old you think?? Would there be a way to "tone" it down some if it were??
ReplyDeleteMy 6 and 8 yr old LOVE it. But, we as a family like this with a little "zip" to it. It certainly was not unmanageable.
DeleteI accidentally bought the "Hot Buffalo" variety and figured WTH, since I like hot stuff. Five minutes after one bite from the crockpot and my mouth is still bur ning a little. I wish I wouldn't have gotten the Hot. Off to figure out if I can do anything about it...
DeleteGinnie, it was not too spicy for my youngest when he was that age but it probably would have been for my oldest. You could always substitute some chicken broth for some of the wing sauce and see if that helps.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best recipe I've found on Pinterest! We LOVE this at our house, and our 1 & 3 year old eat it up, too (so Ginnie, I think your kids would be fine). Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI'm making this now for dinner tomorrow night. I'm not a "hot" person, but every now and again I crave it. So this is it! I'm jumping in! I'm going to have these with some oven fried french fries!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if a little cream cheese would tone it down for the light weights that can't handle the heat? :-)
ReplyDeleteMine is in the crock pot now, but my husband bought a different buffalo sauce that's so good!
ReplyDeleteWhat else would you serve with this?
ReplyDeleteI am doing baked chips and onion rings tonight. I am going to also do a number of toppings from ranch dressing, blue cheese, monterrey jack to let others choose how they want to "dress" it up. btw..love the Bears jerseys!
DeleteMy husband loved this recipe! I used fresh (not frozen) chicken and cooked it on low for 6 hours, shredded it, and returned it to the sauce for an hour on high. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad that this recipe is working out for so many others. It is really a favorite in our house. I think cream cheese might tone the heat down a bit and add a creaminess that might be awesome. I might have to try that!
ReplyDelete@ Harpers Mommy & Daddy - When we serve this as a sandwich, we have some chips, like sun chips, and some fruit on the side.
Looks amazing but I'm a WUSS when it comes to spice, do you think i could do this with barbeque sauce instead??
DeleteI think you could make it with almost any sauce. Hope it works out for you!
DeleteI'm making this today and trying it with the cream cheese and Frank's Hot Sauce. I'll come back and tell you what my family of 6 thought.
ReplyDeleteSince my husband and I are originally from Buffalo - I don't use pre-made wing sauce or have it in the house. We just make our own from the larger bottle of hot sauce because it's cheaper considering how often we use it. Also, everyone can have the level of heat that they like with their wings or in this case, sandwiches.
So, because I used the straight hot sauce, I toned it down with cream cheese and anyone who wants more heat in the end can add more sauce on their own individual sandwich. Blue cheese and celery sticks too!
This was great! I made it for the youth group who were at our house. They said I needed to make it for the next potluck. I am thinking slider burger rolls with a slice of swiss cheese or cheddar and celery sticks on the side. Thank you so much for the recipe, it was delicious (if I do say so myself!)
ReplyDeleteI make this recipe but with a twist... I use 2 whole (unfrozen) chicken breasts, 1 whole jar of Franks ( I have used the original Franks and the Buffalo Franks, both work fine). I cook it in the crock pot for 8 hours, and I just shred it right in the crock pot at the end of that time. Then I add one 8 oz. block of cream cheese and half a jar of Marie's Bleu Cheese salad dressing and stir it in, and it is ready to eat. We use this in many different ways, but my teenage son's favorite is to eat it with tortilla chips!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to try this recipe. And I MUST give you the best tip I've learned from Pinterest so far: I like you, used to shred my chicken with two forks. Now I put the cooked breasts in my KitchenAid mixer with the paddle mixer and turn it on medium high (well, first start low, then as the chicken shreds, turn on higher). Voila! Shredded chicken in less than a minute. Such a time saver!
ReplyDeleteWhen my husband was tasked with shredding of the chicken...he pulled out an old hand mixer and shredded 20 lbs of chicken in under 5 minutes....Well done all who shred this way!
DeleteThis was a wonderful tip and my chicken was shredded in seconds :)
DeleteThat should read: "I, like you, use to shred..."
ReplyDeleteHaha. I probably would like you if we met though. Anyone who loves buffalo chicken this much is destined to be a friend of mine.
Do you mind if I share this recipe on my blog? (www.notwithoutmymom.com) Of course I'll link back to you and give you all the credit.
ReplyDeleteSorry to post this in a comment, but I couldn't find your contact info. You can reply just to this comment or email me at notwithoutmymom@gmail.com.

Made it, love it! HUGE HIT! I linked back to you in my blog post today!

Is there a substitute for Ranch? Not a huge fan of ranch dressing...thoughts?
ReplyDeleteWe just had this for dinner tonight and it was soooo good! I made it with fresh chicken because I didn't have any frozen and it was great. We were gone for most of the day so it ended up staying in the crock pot for like 9 hours but it was still perfect! I just shredded it in the crock pot, it just falls apart. I also thought it might a little too spicy but it wasn't at all. And erikaaa, you may want to try it with the ranch, it doesnt make it taste like ranch, just gives it a little more flavor. Thank you for this recipe, it will definitely be a staple at our house!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so funny I was just thinking about making something like this and I went on Pinterest and it was the first thing that popped up! Thanks for sharing!

This would also be great as a boneless Buffalo chicken pizza. The chicken and sauce on the Pillsbury crust, then top with mozzarella cheese and chopped green onions.
ReplyDeletehow big a bottle of sauce are you using? There were two sizes at the store! They are both the same shape so I couldn't tell in the picture which one you were using. I got the big one - just to be safe - but need to know if I use the full 23 oz??
ReplyDeleteI just blew the picture up... & it's a 12oz bottle of hot sauce. I had the same question... lol
DeleteI had never seen any other size than what I bought until I saw this question. Just checked my cupboard and we do use the 12 oz. size. :)
DeleteI'm ready to put everything in the crockpot but have the same issue as the person before me......what size jar of Hot Sauce? I think I purchased the larger size.
ReplyDeleteI don't know for sure the size bottle of hot sauce. The stores I go to only carry one size but there is no way it is 23 oz. I'm gonna say it is 12 to 15 oz. bottle. Hope that works for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking this will be a great weekend dinner (since everyone comes and goes as they please in our house). The leftovers may work out great for buffalo chicken dip during Sunday football.
ReplyDeleteFound this on pinterest and it's cooking in the crock pot now. Smells yummy. I have an 8 oz block of cream cheese I want to add, but I'm not sure when I should add it? Do I add it after I shred the chicken? and then let it cook for another hour?
ReplyDeleteI would add it after you shred the chicken...then let it cook for another hour. Hope that works out for you!
ReplyDeleteEating it right now. I only used 2.5 lbs of chicken and after adding butter and cream cheese it was too liquidy to eat on bread, so we are eating it as nachos. It's yummy, but would like to try it on bread.
ReplyDeleteLooks really yummy. My only concern is using the chicken when it is frozen. I recently read in the food section of my local paper that crockpots cook on such a low temperature that the chicken will remain at a dangerous temperature for two long of a time. Can't wait to try it out though!
ReplyDeleteI have this cooking in the crockpot as we speak. I'm dying to dig in, it smells heavenly!
ReplyDeleteSo excited..in the crock pot now! Can you cook this on high? If so, how long?
ReplyDeleteI have never cooked it on high because I am gone too long...but I know that others have cooked it on high for @ 4 hours. Hope you enjoy!
ReplyDeleteI made this today and it was good but awfully salty. Any suggestions for reducing the saltiness? I have a heart patient at my house and he needs reduced sodium foods. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteIn the crock pot now! Just shredded it and put it back for another hour. There's just two of us so I used about 6 tenderloins and about 1/2 the bottle of sauce and 3/4 packet of the dressing...then 1 tbs of butter. I'll let you know how the final product turns out.
ReplyDeleteThis would be good topped with some celery slices and blue cheese as well - just like Kopps in Milwaukee.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and I love anything with Buffalo sauce! We made it tonight and loved it! We will use this alot!
ReplyDeleteMade this today and ate for dinner on some toasted sesame deli rolls. Delicious! Made a spread with cream cheese and blue cheese melted together in the microwave. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDelete-Kristen
I am wanting to make this for a party this weekend. I'll be honest, the recipe sounds almost too easy to be true;) But the comments are making a believer out of me! Quick ?: I am concerned with putting the chicken in the crockpot frozen. A previous comment said something about the chicken being at too low of a temperature for too long. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I am thinking I may just put the chicken in thawed and cut the time down by a few hours? Thoughts or Suggestions??
ReplyDeleteJust made this yesterday and it was a big hit with my husband. I used frozen chicken breasts. Left the crockpot on low and it turned out perfectly! Thanks so much for posting!
ReplyDeleteSara - I've made this for years, nearly always using frozen chicken breasts, and no one in our family has ever gotten sick. But, if you are worried about it, thaw the chicken and cook it for less time. I am sure it will be fine that way too. :)
ReplyDeleteMade it and it was delicious! Thanks for the crotch pot recipe! ;)
ReplyDeleteYUM! I think this would be great for when my extended family gets together to watch football. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI am making this for dinner tonight! just need to run to store to grab all the ingredients. thanks for the idea, it sounds delicious!
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner tonight...I couldn't find the dry packets of ranch dressing here so I used a quarter cup of the regular premade stuff and it turned out great! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteCould the extras be frozen?
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, this is right up my alley. Thanks for sharing! I love love love easy crock pot recipes.
ReplyDeleteI dont know if you have answered this before or not, but what do you think about freezing leftovers? We have 5 people in my family, but my 3 kids are under 6 and wouldnt touch it. IT WAS AWESOME though, and me and my husband devoured it. I have enough for 2 more uses.
ReplyDeleteI did add 4 ounces of cream cheese and about 2 tbsp brown sugar to add some sweetness. It was really VERY good!
Also, I used thawed chicken, and it nearly fell apart after 6 hours. no shredding needed. It was GREAT!
ReplyDeleteI have never frozen it...my 11 year old will eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner until it is gone! :) However, I don't see why it wouldn't freeze fine.
ReplyDeleteI got the Franks Original sauce because they didn't have the wing sauce at my grocery store, will this be ok? I don't want it to be too spicy?
ReplyDeleteit is in the crock pot now.....serving it for deer hunters...I think they will love it!!
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm trying your recipe tonight for dinner. It's in the slow cooker now. I can't wait to see how it turns out! Would you mind if I link your post to my blog? Please let me know. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAmanda
http://twoarebetterthan1.blogspot.com
This is in the crock pot right now :) and I can't wait to have it for supper tonight!!! I didn't have Frank's buffalo sauce so I am using Sweet Baby Ray's buffalo wing sauce.
ReplyDeleteAlyssa - I've never used anything but the wing sauce (regular and hot). If you are worried, you can always use half the Franks sauce and half chicken stock.
ReplyDeleteAmanda - I hope you enjoyed it - and feel free to link away!
A friend posted this on Facebook, and it looked interesting so I made it today, and it's really, really good. I went simple, and put it on hamburger rolls with some blue cheese dressing, and it's delicious. Thanks so much for sharing it!
ReplyDeleteMaking this right now for Sunday Football tomorrow...I am gonna roll it up tomorrow in some pillsbury crescent rolls and bake in the oven as buffalo chicken snackitos!!!
ReplyDeleteMade this for dinner tonight. Delicious! We added a bit of cream cheese as other have mentioned to thicken it up a little. And we toasted the buns before putting the chicken on them. Amazing! Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI found this via Pinterest! This looks amazing, and I love that you can throw the chicken breasts in frozen!
ReplyDeleteI saw this on pinterest and promptly made if for my family. It was so tasty - a huge hit! Thanks for sharing the recipe.
ReplyDeletetoo funny - I made something almost like this over the weekend and then just found this today on Pinterest! I cooked my chicken in Franks mixed with butter...After I shredded my chicken, I mixed it with 8oz of softened cream cheese and then added the ranch. It was wonderful! So - if you are looking for something a little more creamy - mix in a little cream cheese!
ReplyDeletei found on pinterest and just recieved my first crock-pot as a gift yesterday! my first dinner: this buffalo chicken! in the pot now and sooo excited.. t-minus 6 hours!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the recipe, my family loves it! To the leftover, I added some red beans and put mixture over plain rice with a dollop of sour cream....yummmmmm!
ReplyDeletewhat a great idea :) thanks
DeleteI was wondering about substituting something else in place of the Ranch. I am thinking I would just add about 8 oz of bleu cheese. Any thoughts?
ReplyDeleteJust made this..didn't have buns or rolls, so i threw it in some taco shells..to die for!! Thank you so much for this recipe!!
ReplyDeleteI've never tried it with the blue cheese, although I have now tried adding some cream cheese to it and I love that too! Makes a more creamy "dippy" type of chicken so I would imagine the bleu cheese would work. Let me know how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteI have been putting frozen chicken in the crockpot for 20 years for my husband and my 5 kids. We have NEVER gotten sick.
ReplyDeleteTry making as a wrap with very thinly sliced celery, finely chopped carrots, lettuce, and blue cheese. A healthier version and to die for!
ReplyDeleteThis looks soooo great!
ReplyDeleteMade this for my husband tonight... he scarfed it down and went back for a second sandwich!! Thanks for the great recipe. I goofed and used the Frank RedHot sauce, so next time I will try the original flavor.
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to try this!! I bet for people that have kids that dont like the hot you could get franks honey bbq sauce. Really you could add any sauce style you want! The possibilities are endless you could even use enchilada sauce and make shredded chicken enchiladas! Thanks for sharing :)
ReplyDeletefound on pininterst....looks wonderful! Perfect for sundays packer game!
ReplyDeleteI made this for dinner last night and I must say, I was a little disappointed. Hubby loves Franks Red Hot, so when i saw this, I figured it would be right up his alley. But it was waaaaay too salty. I mean, I felt like I was eating straight up table salt. I went right by the recipe, so I know I didn't do anything wrong. Maybe it's just the taste of the sauce?? Who knows! Is there anyway to make it less salty?
ReplyDeleteI made this last night for dinner and absolutely loved it!!! It's only me and my fiance that ate it though, so we had a TON left over (not that I mind!). I love love love anything with buffalo sauce, and get angry cravings for it every once in a while, this is the perfect fix!
ReplyDeletealso found this on pinterest - tried it tonight, it's delicious! I don't like many of the things I try in the crockpot, so this will be a staple in our house too - anything that actually tastes good when it comes out of the crockpot is a winner in my book!
ReplyDeleteI have this in the crockpot now. Cant wait to try it. Sounds wonderful & I love how simple it is!! Thanks for sharing the recipe!! :)
ReplyDeleteI made this and it is DELISH!!!I used boneless breasts and thighs because thats what I had on hand. I also found this on Pinterest and had to try it.So easy and so good. I froze some of the leftovers and will be making buffalo dip.Thank you for a GREAT recipe.
ReplyDeleteMy son and I have been on a search for the perfect Buffalo Chicken sandwich. I have tried it many ways and tonight we are going in this direction. I found this recipe on Pinterest and as soon as I did I knew that I had to try it and add it to our list. I am serving it with the Oven Baked Parmesan Fries that I also found on Pinterest. Definitely looking forward to dinner tonight!
ReplyDeleteI put it in this morning. Walked into the house to an amazing smell. Can't wait to taste it!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try this but put the chicken in a wrap with lettuce and ranch dressing
ReplyDeleteHad this tonight. LOVED IT! Even my non hot loving son enjoyed it! Served it on sweet rolls. Bring it to a Christmas Party on Monday. Will add the cream cheese for the party. Thanks so much for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteCan you cook this on high w/shorter time? Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteI cant wait to try this, i found the recipe from pinterest when searchingvfor buffalo chicken. And i love that it is in the crockpot, i work all day so the crockpot is the best way to go for me!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight and it was a HIT! My 14-yr old said "when are you making this again???" :)
ReplyDeletecant wait to make this for a new years eve party. i am thinking about putting it on hawaiian rolls. yum
ReplyDeleteif u use cream cheese would u still use the butter?
ReplyDeleteI've made this too! Except, I put the chicken on pizza crust with some ranch dressing and different shredded cheeses and made buffalo chicken pizza. Ahhhmazing! So easy to do. I put the chicken in the crock pot before work, and when I come home, I shred it, put it back in to 'soak' and then make up my pizza dough and 20 minutes later, supper is ready!!!
ReplyDeleteI made this recipe last night and combined it with another one I found for Buffalo Chicken Tacos. They were fantastic! I did forget the butter, but it was still fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI have this in the crock pot right now... just shredded the chicken and added butter and cream cheese -- will be ready to eat in an hour! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing this recipe...i will definitely be trying this soon!!
ReplyDeleteThis is so delish! I used a mix of boneless breasts and thighs and added cream cheese as my local brand of hot sauce is way hot! I am freezing a batch to make tacos with it when the craving strikes! Thanks Pinterest for letting me find this!
ReplyDeleteCannot WAIT to make this tomorrow for dinner! Thanks for sharing such a fantastic (and simple!) recipe!
ReplyDeleteCheers!
http://prettyworthy.com
I am making this in a couple hours.... OMG!!!! I'm watering just thinking about it. Do you think this would be ok with different sauces??
ReplyDeleteI wanna try this but i was wondering could i use 3 lbs. of chicken tenders instead and it still turn out as good?
ReplyDeleteI made this and now my husband specifically asks for it, which is a miracle! He's the type to eat whatever I make and doesn't really ever have any requests. He even went out and got the ingredients last night so I could make it today, ha! Awesome recipe, thanks!!
ReplyDeleteMade this today and it was soooo yummy!!! I added about 2 oz of r.f. cream cheese and had 1-2 lbs of frozen chicken breasts. My husband loved this too. Thank you for the tasty lunch option. :)
ReplyDeleteI made this without the butter last night and topped an iceberg salad (with celery and red onions) with it. The sauce is so yummy, no other dressing needed!
ReplyDeleteDOn't worry about shredding the chicken with two forks If you have a kitchenaid stand mixer simply throw the cooked chicken breasts in with the shield, lock, and turn on high. All your chicken will be shredded in about 30-45 sec.
ReplyDeleteSaw this on my niece's Pinterest board and can't wait to try it. My family loves buffalo chicken any way they can get it and I love easy crockpot recipes. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like so much watery juice I poured it all out into a bowl thinking it would be to runny , but after reading all these reviews I see it needs to be in the juice as the chicken soaks it up , I added back to the crockpot over the chicken and wow it soaks it up for sure. This is a good recipe so tasty , can't wait to make my shredded chicken nachos in about 30 mins. And shredded checken sandwich for lunch tomorrow. Yummy
ReplyDeleteI don't have any chicken in the freezer but I have some canned chicken breasts in the pantry. Do you all think I will essentially get the same outcome? How long should I cook it?
ReplyDeletecame across this recipe on pinterest, making it RIGHT now as an alternative for normal hotwings as gameday food during the national championship game tonight! very excited!
ReplyDeleteOh my word!! I made this for the game tonight & it is DELISH!!! I added about 1/3 of a block of cream cheese, will add more next time. I was trying to hide it from my men who don't eat it & you couldn't even tell it was in there. lol I toasted the buns with butter and added a little drizzle of Ranch dressing to mine. I just can't tell you how easy & delicious this was! FYI-I took the advice about shredding the chicken with my KitchenAid....so awesome & took about 15 seconds.
ReplyDeleteFound this on Pinterest and it is in the crockpot now...can't wait to try it! I am all for easy recipes. I am in nursing school so anything that makes life easier and gives my family something good to eat is awesome in my book:) Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteFound this on pineterest, made it tonight and love it! Too spicy for my toddler, but super easy and moist and only 3 ingredients!! (I omitted the butter)
ReplyDeletei dont want to go to the store... dont have ranch packet! think i could use a bottle of ranch?
ReplyDeleteWHat size crokpot are you using?
ReplyDeleteNot sure what size the crock pot is...I just call it my large crock pot. The 3 pound bag of frozen chicken just barely fits in it when it is frozen. When it is all cooked up, it is about 1/2 full.
DeleteCan I make this without the ranch?
ReplyDeleteI've never tried to make it without the Ranch. I have made it with less to make it less salty but never with none. I would imagine it would be fine. If you try it without, let me know how it tastes.
DeleteI would love to make this with thawed chicken breasts on high, do you think that would work or is it better on low for the flavors to meld? And if on high, how long with unfrozen chicken breasts?
ReplyDeleteI've made it both ways. With thawed, I only cook it 3 - 4 hours on high. I always think longer is better but sometimes you have to work with what you got! :)
DeleteI cook with the crock pot alot and have found chicken really cooks better on low.Even at 2 hours on high it can start to get tough. The perfect time seems to be around 4 hrs and 40 min on low. Just a suggestion if you don't use the crock pot alot.
DeleteMaking this right now. very excited to try! I am slightly concerned because i just read a comment of someone saying it was to salty bc my husband is so picky with to much salt. wondering how i could tone it down if it is salty to him? Has anyone else thought it was to salty for their taste?
ReplyDeleteDefinitely cut back on the Ranch seasoning if you are trying to make it less salty. I happen to love salty but have lately been trying to cut back too.
DeleteCooked it all day and it looks and smells great. tried it and i love it but i am a salt lover too, do think my husband will say it is a bit to salty. will for sure try less ranch seasoning next time. :) is there anything i could add that would cut the salt taste to it now??
ReplyDeleteMight be too late but you can try to add some cream cheese. It makes it really creamy and might help cut the salt.
DeleteMade it yesterday and it was phenomenal. Only had a few breasts, used maybe 1/2 the bottle. Also forgot to buy the ranch mix, so I just made my own from a recipe I found on allrecipes and it was awesome. Not salty, just delicious. Added a lil sour cream and had it on a sandwich thin with a tiny spread of goat cheese....mmmmmm.
ReplyDeleteI made this tonight but my husband bought Kens Buffalo Wing marinade because he couldn't find the Franks. It was a HUGE hit for my gathering. Thanks for the Kitchenaid shredding tip! I only used 1 TBs of butter and really think I could have skipped it. Kids and adults enjoyed it. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteGirlfriend shared this post with me. I made your Crock Pot Buffalo Chicken this weekend. A big hit with all the kids!
ReplyDeleteI shared one of your pics on my blog. . but of course gave you credit and linked back here for directions.
http://theintentionalhome.blogspot.com/2012/01/5-for-tuesday.html
Thanks for sharing!
Found this on Pinterest. Making it for dinner tonight. My mouth is already watering... now to wait 7 hours! Looks so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteAlso found this on Pinterest a while back, and made for a football tailgate. Worked out perfect, threw it all in the crock pot the night before and it was ready to go in the morning!!! Delicious and simple
ReplyDeleteHas anyone ever used leftovers to create a cheese dip? If so, I'd love for you to share your recipe.
ReplyDeleteI have made a dip with these leftovers (@ 3 cups), 2 blocks cream cheese, @ 1 cup mozzarella cheese, and 1 cup of Ranch or Creamy Bleu Cheese dressing. I just mix everything up together, spread it out in a pie plate and cook it for @ 30 minutes at 350 degrees. If you try something different and it turns out, let me know!
DeleteI plan on using the leftovers to make these: http://pinterest.com/pin/38562140529061437/
DeleteIf you're looking to tone down the heat, add some BBQ sauce along with the Frank Red Hot. I suggest a golden Carolina-style, mustard-based BBQ sauce. When I make chicken wings, I make a sauce of 50% BBQ sauce and 50% Franks. It's to die for!
ReplyDeleteFound this on Pinterest. Made it the next night. I served it over brown rice. Then topped with shredded cheese and sour cream. Very good.
ReplyDeleteI made this the other day and it was SOOO good. Im counting down the days till I can make it again. Super easy and super delicious! Thanks for the recipe!
ReplyDeleteI found this on pinterest. It is cooking right now. Yummmmmmmm! :)
ReplyDeletemy roommate and i are making this for a get together tomorrow night. what sides should we serve with the sandwiches?
ReplyDeleteWho would have known that frozen chicken breasts, a bottle of Red Hot and a packet of Hidden Valley Ranch in the crockpot for 8ish hours would produce a meal that my kids are saying is the best I've ever made. (!) I'm in shock. Thanks for such a wonderful recipe.
ReplyDeleteI found this recipe through Pinterest and made it yesterday, it was delicious!! My boyfriend said it's the best chicken he's ever had... and we eat a lot of chicken!! Thanks for sharing the recipe! I think it would be great on tacos and nachos as well, and it was great on my salad too!! : )
ReplyDeleteOk, seriously so good. I pinned it on Pinterest a while back and as I was going through my food board, it jumped out at me because I had just hit a chicken sale.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. By far THE best crockpot recipe I have ever found online. I can't believe it's so simple yet so good! I only had four fresh chicken breasts (less than 2lb) and used about 1/2 a bottle of Fred's. Used the whole packet of Ranch and I'm thinking next time I'll just use half.
The good news is, it still made a lot and the leftovers are going to make these buffalo chicken egg rolls (http://pinterest.com/pin/38562140529061437/) that I also found on pinterest. What did we all do before pinterest? Its such a great site for food discoveries! :)
Have you made it without the butter?
ReplyDeleteI haven't made it without butter but others have left comments that they left it out and it was fine.
DeleteI forgot to add the butter and it was delish!! We used it in tacos with a little rice and black beans. Unique twist but a great one.
DeleteI made this last night. I had to cook it on high because I started late. but I also used less chicken....it was amazing. Will be making it again for sure. ^^
ReplyDeletePicked up the wrong ranch packet. Instead of the dip I got the Salad Dressing & Seasoning Mix...Will this do or should I wait to make? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI have never tried it with the dressing mix, but I think it would probably work.
Deletehow many people does this serve???? i am having a superbowl party and this sounds like a great entree to serve!
ReplyDeleteWe never use it all for the same thing but I am guessing it would probably make @ 10 sandwiches. This week's version made two regular sandwiches, two grilled cheese sandwiches, a couple plates of nachos, stuffed 48 buffalo chicken bites (from Pinterest), and there is still about 1/2 cup left. Hope that helps.
DeleteThis was great! My 4 year old (who loves spicy food) couldn't get enough....set my crock pot for 6 1/2 hrs when I left work with 4 frozen chicken breasts. 9hrs later it fell apart. I did add juice from crock pot and a little cream cheese and ranch into a sauce pan to tone down the heat factor just a little. Thanks for sharing the recipe! -Megan
ReplyDeleteDo you think this recipe would work with regular wings?
ReplyDeleteI cooked this tonight in the oven. I cooked the chicken on th e stove and shredded it. then i added 1/2 bottle of franks,1/2 stick butter, block of cream cheese and 1 pack of ritz crackers crushed up. mixed all together and put in oven at 350 for 20 min! Great!!!
ReplyDeletei forgot to add 1/2 pack ranch to above recipie.
DeleteTrying it tonight! So far, it smells delicious!
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight, but went with it on top of a precooked pizza crust. Brushed the crust with olive oil and ranch dressing then put the chicken mixture on top and topped it off with cheese and baked it. It was awesome! Definitely will be making this again! My hubby loved it too!
ReplyDeleteThe wife and I use the left over chicken to make buffalo chicken pizza. Just substitute ranch dressing in place of the pizza sauce, throw on some of the above chicken and top with cheese.
ReplyDeleteI made this today....too salty...couldn't eat it :(
ReplyDeleteThis was amazing... my son loved it and wants me to make it again. I have also shared this with tons of friends.. thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteOk so I just made my first sandwhich with this and let me just say OMG!!!!!! I'm afraid i'm not going to have enough for my super bowl party! It is AMAZING! I can't wait to make another batch and use it to top off nachos!
ReplyDeleteJust made this, this evening for superbowl!! Awesome is all I can say!! Everyone loved it, couldn't get enough! Great recipe, Thanks! :D
ReplyDeleteI found this recipe on Pinterest and knew that I had to make it for Super Bowl Sunday. I threw it in the crock pot on low around noon, and by game time it was ready. I forgot the butter at the end, because all the men were circling around the crock pot like vultures saying "Is it ready yet? Is it ready yet?" but I had about 3 or 4 oz of cream cheese left over from an appetizer I made, so I said "hey why not?" and stirred it in right before they attacked it. Because I didn't get to cook it more after I shredded the chicken, it was pretty juicy and messy, but soooo delicious! I'm sure the leftovers will be even better.
ReplyDeleteI was looking for a yummy recipe for Sunday's dinner and found this Saturday night on pinterest. I knew I HAD to make it! I started it that night so I would have one less thing to do on Sunday. I used mexican chili sauce: Valentina and a store brand ranch dip. It was AMAZING! We ate it with homemade bread I had made, topped it off with cheese and ranch. We couldn't get enough! My husband loved it and I will be adding this to the recipe book! Thanks for sharing! I will give you a shout out in my blog!
ReplyDeleteI cant eat Ranch so is there anything else you would use?
ReplyDeleteI made this for the Superbowl too! It is so easy and turned out great! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThis is in my crock pot right now... my second time to make it in a month! Love it!
ReplyDeleteYum! I need to make this!
ReplyDeleteHow many servings would you say this makes?
ReplyDeleteMy family wasn't a fan at all.
ReplyDeleteMade this tonight- used 2 breast, a cup and half of Franks (regular) and some dried ranch mix... eight hours on low... a little dry (think its cause I used to big of a crock)... so I added about another cup of Franks and three tablespoons of butter... IT IS SPICY BECAUSE I USED REG FRANKS!!! But oh so amazing! Added lettuce tomato and blue cheese and it is fantabulous!! Thanks Pinterest and thanks for your wonderful post!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHas anyone found a way to make this with buffalo sauce taste but not spicy? I used Franks regular, not hot and although I loved it, I want to make it less spicy for my kids.
ReplyDeleteWhat size crock pot are you ladies using? I
ReplyDeletethink the one I have may be way to big at 7
Quarts? Please post what size worked for you!
Thank you! :)
I made this last night.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely LOVEd it. And the hubbs couldnt get enough of it!! I hate spicy foods, but I couldn't stop eating it!
I added a bit of sugar to lessen the spice a little bit.
Thanks for sharing!
I'm definitely going to try it but with low fat dressing. I'll let you know how it goes.
ReplyDeleteMy husband made this and not sure if it was the Frank's Buffalo Hot sauce or what, but it was way too salty to enjoy. He followed the recipe to a "T"! We will try it again with different sauce.
ReplyDeleteI tried it this week and found it too strong. Not just spicy but like - back of your throat burning strong!
ReplyDeleteWhen i had some leftovers the following days and mixed some tzatzki in with it, along with black olives and cheese, and made it into a quesadilla - it was amazing!!
I think it's better when it dries up more.
Also, i didn't take the chicken out of the slow cooker to shred it. Why do you? You just shred it right in the slow cooker, it's a piece of cake.
I made this and the flavor was good but it was really salty.I think the powdered ranch dip puts too much salt into it.
ReplyDeleteSo delish! My husband loves spicy things, and this was perfect for him. Unfortunately, I do not like the spicy world of food, and it was still wonderful. I didn't use the Franks Red Hot Wing Sauce (Walmart was out, can you believe that?!), but I used Sweet Baby Ray's Wing Sauce and it was perfect for both of us. I considered adding brown sugar.. not sure why though. This is going to be a new easy go-to in our home, thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteFound on Pinterest, as well. Just loaded everyone into the crockpot. I didn't use a full 3lbs. of chicken. The bag was 3 lbs, but I need chicken for other stuff, so I used 5 pieces and put the other 2 away. I couldn't find the Franks Buffalo sauce, so I got another brand of wing sauce and threw in some of Franks regular (the tiny bottle). I have been looking forward to this ALL WEEK! I wonder if adding a bit of lime juice or fresh garlic would kick things up a bit. Even lemon pepper. So many possibilities.
ReplyDeleteAlso, we have a quesadilla maker here and I can't wait to make buffalo chicken quesadillas!!!
ReplyDeleteMaking these tonight for dinner along with bacon potato rounds!!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the recipe! =)
Found this on pinterest and must try!
ReplyDeleteI found this on a linky through the Hope Studios blog - I can't wait to try this! I almost always put frozen meat in my crock pot - it cooks on turbo and things would cook too fast if i didn't. And I am a new follower, too. Looking forward to perusing your site! (:
ReplyDeleteIf made into sandwiches how many adults do you think this recipe would feed? Looks delicious. I'm thinking I'm going to try it for my house full of visitors next week!
